$221 Million to Fight AIDS OKd

WASHINGTON —  The Senate today passed a $105-billion money bill for the Labor, Health and Education departments after rejecting a move for a 5% across-the-board cut in discretionary programs.

A major item in the bill is $221 million to combat AIDS, nearly double the amount approved last year. The vote was 83 to 15 on the appropriations bill for fiscal 1986, which is second in size only to the Defense Department’s money bill. The bill now goes to a conference committee for differences between it and the $104.4-billion House-passed version to be ironed out.
