Reynolds Fills Several Posts at Nabisco Brands

R. J. Reynolds Industries, which is combining its Del Monte and Nabisco Brands operations Jan. 1 into an international food-and-beverage concern to be called Nabisco Brands Inc. announced a number of top-management assignments for the new company, which will have annual sales of about $9 billion. Nabisco Brands’ management will report to F. Ross Johnson, Reynolds’ president and chief operating officer.
Under the new lineup, James O. Welch becomes president and chief executive of Nabisco Brands, retaining the functions that he had before the acquisition last month. Similarly, Robert M. Schaeberle will remain as chairman. Robert A. Fox, chairman and chief executive of San Francisco-based Del Monte, and Robert J. Carbonell, president of Nabisco Brands USA, will become vice chairmen of the new company, succeeded by Charles J. Chapman, Del Monte’s president and chief operating officer.
In addition, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Reynolds announced a reorganization of its own:
Gerard R. Gunzenhauser, Del Monte senior vice president and chief financial officer, will become senior vice president-finance and controller of Reynolds Industries, effective Jan. 1, and Arnold B. Sidman, vice president-tax, becomes senior vice president-tax. John A. Maselli was named vice president-research and development, effective Nov. 1, succeeding Roy E. Morse, who has retired.
John A. Hagan, Reynolds vice president and controller, will become vice president and controller of Nabisco Brands, succeeding Andrew J. Hines, who was named Nabisco’s new vice president-financial services. Both appointments are effective Jan. 1.
Reynolds also promoted James L. Hatch to vice president-management information resources and Mark F. Nilsson to vice president and general auditor.
