Volleyball Roundup : USIU Defeats San Francisco in Volleyball

SAN DIEGO — The United States International University women’s volleyball team beat the University of San Francisco, 15-10, 15-13, 15-6, Saturday in a West Coast Athletic Conference match at USIU.
USIU (2-2, 8-11) came from behind to win the first two matches but was never threatened in the final one. Nancy Dome led the Gulls with 14 kills and Claudia Johnson added 10. USF dropped to 2-3, 12-8.
USIU’s next match will be on the road against Loyola Marymount Friday at 7:30 p.m.
In other WCAC action:
Santa Clara 3, University of San Diego 1--The Broncos beat the Toreros, 15-3, 15-5, 11-15, 15-5, at USD’s Sports Center. Santa Clara improved to 4-1, 11-12.
Gina Trapletti led USD (0-4, 0-16) with seven kills and seven digs. Heidi Bruning added seven kills and Leisa Hagen had seven digs. The Torero’s next match is Friday at the University of San Francisco.
UC San Diego 3, University of LaVerne 2--The UCSD women defeated LaVerne, 15-6, 15-8, 9-15, 15-17, 15-11, in a nonconference match at UCSD. Kim Stonecipher led the Tritons (7-12) with 13 kills and 15 assists. Jennifer Pettigrew added 12 kills and Carol Lipsen had 9 kills, 8 service aces and 4 digs. LaVerne dropped to 10-12.
