China Hiccups Yield to Pressure on Ear
Associated Press
PEKING — A doctor in southern China’s Yunnan province has cured 350 cases of hiccups by pressing the ears of patients, the English-language China Daily said.
Inspired by an ancient theory, Dr. Deng Guangwu of the Qujin Traditional Chinese Hospital began daily ear pressure treatments in 1974 on a peasant who had been hiccuping for three years, the paper said. It said Deng cured the patient in three months by applying pressure on his outer ears for up to three minutes daily.
