Cal Lutheran Coach Don Green knows it is a hard act to follow. His cross-country team last year won the District III championship. This year it wants to repeat.
Led by co-captains Art Castle and Mike Smith, the Kingsmen have finished the invitational meets and will play host to a dual meet against Chapman Saturday.
Green expects NAIA District II rival Biola to be the main competition in the race for the title. Last weekend at the Biola Invitational, CLC finished third in the team competition behind first place Westmont and Pt. Loma-Nazarene.
The Sporting News’ 1985-86 Basketball Yearbook has listed Trevor Wilson, a 6-7 senior forward at Cleveland High, 25th on a list of the best high school basketball players in the nation.
Mario Lopez, a 6-7 forward at Valley College, also is named on a separate list in the publication. Lopez is rated 22nd among the nation’s top 30 junior college players.
More than 30 celebrities, including Jack Lemmon, Martin Sheen and McLean Stevenson, are expected to play Sunday in the 18th Tim Conway Golf Tournament at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
The tournament is a benefit for the United Cerebral Palsy/Spastic Children’s Foundation.
A shotgun start will begin play at 10 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Admission is $2 and children under 12 will be admitted free.
