Player: Randy Austin School: Canyon
Positions: Linebacker, tight end
Class: Senior Size: 6-2 1/2, 209
Last Week: Austin was a major part of a defense that limited Crespi to two first downs and just 48 yards offense in a 35-0 Canyon rout. He had a touchdown called back after returning an interception 55 yards. Austin combined with nose guard Joe Zacharia to throttle the Celts. “It was almost as if anything that got by Joe, Randy took care of it,” Coach Harry Welch said.
Season: Austin, who was one of the area’s most publicized players in the preseason, has lived up to his billing. With four interceptions, Austin leads a Canyon defense that has allowed only 26 points.
Coach’s Comment: “He is truly one of the best linebackers we’ve ever had at Canyon,” Welch said. “Each week he gets better and better. The last few weeks, he’s been playing at a consistently excellent level. He got off slowly the first couple of games, but he isn’t slow anymore.”
