Police were unable to immediately identify a burglary suspect who was shot to death by Hawthorne officers as he struggled with them. Officials could find no identifying documents on the dead man, and his name could not be learned from a check of his fingerprints, Sgt. Brad Bristow said. The shooting occurred outside a home in the 13000 block of Prairie Avenue after three officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress. As one officer attempted to handcuff the suspect, he reportedly swung around and grabbed the officer’s holstered handgun. The other officers fired, killing the man.
