Orange : Man Gets 29 Years for Fatal Colorado Shooting
- Share via
An Orange man has begun serving a 29-year sentence in Colorado State Prison for the fatal shooting of his hunting companion near Meeker, Colo., last year.
Steven Cordero, 29, was sentenced in Glenwood Springs, Colo., District Court for the Nov. 4, 1984 shooting death of Douglas Lightfoot, 42, of Big Bear Lake.
Prosecutors said Lightfoot was shot in the head when the two men fought at the hunting camp after a drinking bout. Cordero said the shooting was in self-defense.
Cordero’s trial was moved from Meeker to Glenwood Springs after defense attorneys successfully argued that pre-trial publicity in Meeker would prevent a fair trail. The jury, after two days of deliberation, found Cordero guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft.
