Police arrested a motorist Tuesday after his car allegedly hit a car stopped at a traffic light and killed its driver.
Steven Bigelow, 29, of Santa Ana was booked into Orange County Jail for vehicular manslaughter after he rear-ended a car driven by Edward J. McElroy, 56, of Santa Ana, according to Melissa Sullivan, Tustin police spokeswoman.
McElroy was stopped at a signal at Redhill Avenue and Nisson Road about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when Bigelow, who was driving a heavy, four-wheel drive vehicle, failed to slow or stop for the signal and crashed into McElroy’s car, Sullivan said.
The Santa Ana man was pinned in the wreckage and finally removed by rescue workers. He was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he later died.
