ST. LOUIS — The spotlight shines again on Joaquin Andujar and he insists he can take the glare.
The St. Louis Cardinals much-maligned starter will be on the mound for Game 6 Wednesday in Los Angeles as the Cardinals try to nail down a World Series berth.
Orel Hershiser, who beat Andujar in Game 2, will start for Los Angeles and try to even the series at 3-3 for the Dodgers.
“Hey, I’m no rookie,” Andujar said. “I’ve been pitching for 16 years. I know what to do out there.”
In 1982, Andujar won a playoff game and two World Series games, including Game 7.
“I’ve been in big games before,” he said. “This is no different. I feel no pressure.”
Andujar suffered the loss in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium. Andujar lost his poise and tried to knock down Steve Sax and Mariano Duncan. He also gave up a two-run homer to Greg Brock.
“We played too hard in Los Angeles,” Andujar said.
