Florida and federal officials ordered the burning of an estimated 1 million trees after an outbreak of citrus canker was confirmed at a nursery near Winter Haven. “This seems quite serious,” said Henry Schmidt of the canker fighting team. “We just don’t know where the infestation is. This is our fourth unrelated find. We’re in a dilemma as to where the infestation is, but we’re hoping for a break.”
