Calabasas, Riding Its Best Start, Wins, 25-6

Calabasas Coach Larry Edwards asked for one wish Friday night. He wanted to end the Coyotes’ three-year losing streak against cross-town rival Oak Park High.
And when the final seconds ticked away, Edwards’ wish came true as the Calabasas Coyotes beat visiting Oak Park, 25-6.
“It feals great to win and I hope we continue winning,” Edwards said following his team’s fourth victory in as many tries.
“It’s always nice to beat a team in your community, but I’ll take a win anywhere.”
With 8:40 left in the first quarter, Calabasas quarterback Darren Del’Andrae completed three consecutive passes to wide reciever Todd Wensley that moved the ball to the Oak Park 27-yard line.
A personal foul was called against the Eagles for a late hit, which moved the ball to the 17-yard line. On second down and 10, Del’Andrea found Wensley wide open for a 17-yard touchdown pass.
Neither team could generate much offense until late in the first quarter when Calabasas fullback Jim Ervin broke loose on a 55-yard run.
Four plays later Ervin bullied his way six yards for a touchdown, ending the first quarter with the score, 13-0.
The apparent Calabasas rout was slowed when Del’Andrea had a pass intercepted by Brian Friefeld. Friefeld returned it for a 29-yard touchdown.
But Calabasas came right back, driving 70 yards before Del’Andrea ran in from a yard out for a 20-6 halftime lead.
