Yang, Sneaky Attack Lead Glendale’s Win

Glendale High Coach John Brennan didn’t want to see his team get into a high-scoring shootout with crosstown rival Burroughs of Burbank.
“If we get into one of those, we could be in some serious trouble,” he said before Friday night’s game. “If we’re going to be successful, we’re going to have to keep the score down.”
Brennan was prophetic.
His Dynamiters limited Burroughs (2-2) to one touchdown and came away with a 21-7 nonleague victory.
The win lifted Glendale’s season mark to 3-1, a significant improvment from the bookend 0-10 seasons of 1983 and ’84.
The missing ingredient may have been John Yang.
Fortunately for the Dynamiters, they have Yang now. He’s a dream come true for a team which had suffered through more than its share of sleepless nights.
Yang rushed for 153 yards on 28 carries and set up each of Glendale’s three touchdowns.
