A controlled burn conducted at the Camp Elliot Naval Training Base by the Miramar Naval Air Station Fire Department left large clouds of smoke over parts of northeast San Diego Friday.
The burn was part of a training exercise by the Miramar fire crews, said Larry Stewart, spokesman for the San Diego Fire Department. A small field on the eastern side of Camp Elliot was set ablaze.
