UC Continues A-Arms Research
From United Press International
The University of California Board of Regents voted today to continue its ties with laboratories involved in nuclear weapons research.
By a 19-7 vote, the regents agreed to negotiate with the U.S. Department of Energy, which finances the laboratories, for extensions of the contracts until 1993. The meeting was delayed while UCLA police cleared the hall of protesters who began chanting in opposition to university involvement in weapons research.
