Former Cowboy Springs Convicted of Resisting Arrest
DALLAS — A jury Thursday convicted former Dallas Cowboys running back Ron Springs of resisting arrest in a scuffle with police officers in a topless nightclub in January.
The punishment phase in the trial begins today. Resisting arrest, a Class-A misdemeanor, carries a maximum punishment of a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Springs, whose pro football career has been put on hold because of his legal problems, had been charged with assaulting a police officer. The jury returned in just under four hours with a verdict on the lesser charge.
Assaulting an officer, a felony, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
