American Loses Appeal in China Fire Conviction

PEKING — Texas businessman Richard Ondrik lost his appeal of a conviction for negligently causing a hotel fire that killed 10 people in Harbin and must serve 18 months in jail, the New China News Agency said.
Ondrik, 34, of Houston, was convicted last month of causing the blaze in the northeast city by smoking in bed.
