U.S. Sets India, Pakistan Talks
WASHINGTON — President Reagan is dispatching two high-ranking officials to India and Pakistan to discuss regional tensions and concern over the possibility that Pakistan may be developing a nuclear weapon, a White House spokesman said today.
Deputy Press Secretary Larry Speakes said that Michael H. Armacost, undersecretary of state for political affairs, and Donald R. Fortier, the third ranking aide in the National Security Council, will visit Islamabad and New Delhi from Saturday until Tuesday to discuss “a full range of bilateral” issues and a “political solution for Soviet-occupied Afghanistan.”
