Stargell Again Linked to Drugs
PITTSBURGH — Cincinnati Reds star Dave Parker today supported earlier court testimony that former Pittsburgh teammates Willie Stargell and Bill Madlock distributed “greenies”--amphetamines--in the Pirates’ clubhouse.
Parker acknowledged receiving the drugs from Stargell, longtime inspirational leader of the Pirates and currently their first-base coach, and Madlock, who was recently traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, during re-direct examination at the trial of Curtis Strong in U.S. District Court. Strong is a Philadelphia caterer charged with selling cocaine to major league players in Pittsburgh between 1980 and 1984.
