Lightning Kills Golfer, Soccer Player in Illinois

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — Two bolts of lightning struck 30 persons at a soccer field and a golf course, killing two, officials said Monday.
Golfers were “lying all over the ground,” after lightning struck the Crystal Woods Golf Course, about 20 miles northwest of Chicago, Sunday afternoon, killing one man and injuring seven other persons, two of them seriously, Crystal Lake Fire Chief Harold Krecker said.
During the same storm, lightning hit the soccer goal post in nearby McHenry and ricocheted 25 feet, knocking 22 players to the ground, Police Chief Patrick Joyce said. One was killed and another seriously injured.
