Nebraska Tight End Dies of Gun Wound--Apparent Suicide
University of Nebraska tight end Brian Hiemer died Wednesday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Hiemer, 21, apparently shot himself with a .22-caliber rifle Tuesday at his parents’ home in Shelby, Neb. The police said it did not look like an accidental death.
Hiemer, 6-3, 215 pounds, shared tight end duties last season with Todd Frain. He was expected to do the same this season.
“All of us have a great deal of sympathy for Brian’s family,” Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne said.
“Everyone admired him as a fine player, a fine person, and a fine student. Brian will be greatly missed by all of us.”
