Commodore International will take a big loss.

The Westchester, Pa.-based firm, which recently introduced a new personal computer called the Amiga that is intended to reverse its fortunes, said it plans to take significant year-end inventory write-downs for its fiscal fourth quarter ended June 30. As a result, Commodore said it will lose about $80 million for the period. Commodore has been hard hit by the weakening of the market for cheap home computers, which it dominates. The firm lost $21 million in the previous quarter.
