TRW won an $89.3-million Air Force contract.

The company will design a communications network for the Defense Department to replace the existing 15-year-old system used by the military and defense agencies for classified telecommunications. Work on the project will be done at TRW’s defense systems group in Redondo Beach but will not mean a major increase in hiring, a TRW spokeswoman said. The design phase runs through March, 1989, but the contract could be extended several years for implementation and maintenance of the system, a Pentagon spokesman said.
