Pepperdine University presented honorary doctor of laws degrees to Roy Butler, former chief academic officer of England’s Oxford University; William A. Wilson, U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, and county Supervisor Deane Dana during commencement ceremonies at the school’s Malibu campus last weekend.
About 250 students received bachelor’s degrees from Seaver College, the Pepperdine liberal arts school, during a morning ceremony. About 300 students received master’s degrees from the university’s School of Business and Management in the afternoon.
Butler addressed the morning graduates; Wilson spoke to the afternoon session.
University President David Davenport said Dana’s degree “is the university’s way of acknowledging to him what he means to Pepperdine.” Dana’s coastal district includes the Malibu area.
