Satellite Station Near Somis Now Being Expanded
- Share via
An October completion is scheduled for the expansion of the South Mountain Earth Station near Somis, a link in the transmission of coast-to-coast television and telecommunications signals that can handle up to 10,000 telephone calls simultaneously.
The $1.35-million, 12,000-square-foot station, owned and operated by RCA American of Princeton, N. J., also tracks space satellites, some more than 25,000 miles away, and relays their signals. Highly insulated, the station contains extensive electrical and mechanical systems to serve and protect its computer and communications equipment.
Working drawings were completed by Ebbe Videriksen AIA Architect & Associates of Sherman Oaks, which is now responsible for construction administration. The general contractor is HMH Construction Co. of Camarillo.
