Residue of the pesticide aldicarb sulfoxide, which made nearly 300 people ill last month after they ate tainted watermelons, has been found again on watermelons in Kern County and on a field of broccoli in Monterey County. The state Department of Food and Agriculture reported that the pesticide was found in samples taken from 80 acres of watermelons grown by farmer Tim Yaksitch. The department said that all the melons were destroyed and the fields plowed under. Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner Richard Nutter said residues were discovered in a field of young broccoli south of King City. But Nutter emphasized that none of the broccoli would reach the market and that there is no health threat.
