Bomber Rides Explosive-Laden Donkey to Target
JERUSALEM — A suicide bomber rode on a donkey to the headquarters of the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army in the southern Lebanon town of Hasbaya and set off a blast, killing himself and the donkey but injuring no one else, Israel radio said today.
The report said that the attacker was a Shia Muslim and that he had concealed the explosives in saddle baskets hanging from the donkey.
The Lebanese National Resistance claimed responsibility and identified the attacker as Jamal Sati, 23, a member of the Lebanese Communist Party from the Bekaa Valley.
It was the fifth suicide attack in recent weeks on South Lebanon and Israeli troops in the Israeli-proclaimed security strip just north of the border and the first involving a donkey.
