Wall Street Reporter Sentenced

NEW YORK — Former Wall Street Journal reporter R. Foster Winans was sentenced today to 18 months in prison, five years’ probation and a $5,000 fine for using his position at the paper to make quick profits in the stock market.
U.S. District Judge Charles E. Stewart Jr., who ruled in June after a long non-jury trial that Winans was guilty of conspiracy, securities fraud and wire and mail fraud, could have given him up to five years in prison. Winans will remain free on bail pending an appeal.
