A Canoga Park man died Sunday when he and a passenger were thrown from the car he was driving swerved off the Golden State Freeway in Glendale and tumbled down an embankment, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officer Robert Vargas said Jeffrey Ireland, 36, was killed in the 4:15 p.m. accident, which occurred by the Branford Street on-ramp.
