Westminster : Thieves Smash Into 2 Jewelry Stores in Mall
Burglars broke into two Westminster Mall jewelry stores early Monday and made off with more than $80,000 in jewelry, police reported. Westminster police responded to alarms received at 3:35 and 3:36 a.m. but found no suspects at the mall when they arrived at 3:38, Police Lt. Richard Main said.
“They can be in and out in a minute and a half depending on how fast they break that exterior glass,” he said.
Slavick’s Jewelers lost close to $70,000, the store manager said, and Gordon’s Jewelers lost more than $10,000. The thieves broke into the mall and then broke into each of the two stores through the glass windows. Jewelry was taken from smashed display cases in both stores, Main said.
The thieves apparently tried to break into a third store, Antoyan Jewelers, but were unsuccessful. “We were just very lucky,” store manager Terry Clark said.
