Alaska Gov. Bill Sheffield’s former top aide told the state Senate Rules Committee in Juneau that he thought his ex-boss blundered in supplying a political crony with inside information for a lucrative state lease. John Shively resigned as chief of staff after his grand jury testimony led to impeachment proceedings against the governor. Shively told the committee, which is conducting hearings on the impeachment, that he learned last year that Sheffield had sent a lease bid proposal to a top political fund-raiser. “I just thought it was one of those things that would not look very good for the governor,” even though it was legal, Shively said.
