A 26-year-old El Cajon man has been arrested on suspicion of battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and weapons charges after he reportedly threw a tin can at an El Cajon police officer, and then jumped into the pond outside City Hall.
According to police, George Sutovich, 26, picked up a tin can and hurled it at El Cajon police Sgt. Pat Sprecco, who was approaching Sutovich to question him Wednesday about a jewelry story robbery earlier in the day.
Sutovich apparently tried to flee by jumping into the pond, but was quickly apprehended by Sprecco and Officer Tom Buell, police said.
In a subsequent search of the pond, police recovered what they believe is the jewelry from the robbery and two handguns, reports said.
