Memory Celebrated

I want to thank you for your review of “The Early Diary of Anais Nin” (Book Review, June 2). I was delighted that you pointed out Anais’ optimism and confidence. These were qualities she never lost throughout a long and difficult career.

In 1947, Anais and I drove from New York to Los Angeles in my Model A Ford. Anais then became one of the first bi-coastal artists. In 1960 (to seduce her to stay in L.A.), I built a house in Silver Lake designed for her by my stepfather, architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and L.A. became her permanent residence.

The Friends of the UCLA Library held a celebration here when it was decided the original diaries would go to UCLA Special Collections. The house is now part of the Anais Nin Foundation and will be maintained as a memorial.
