‘Proper Punishment’
We work in the heart of Central Los Angeles, and we see people everyday who live in some of our city’s poorest housing. We wish to support Judge McBeth on her sentence of Milton Avol to live for 30 days in one of his own neglected apartment buildings.
We believe that if enough people cared about the dehumanizing living conditions, which so many among us are subject to every day, that this abuse would no longer be tolerated in our city.
We commend Judge McBeth for bringing these conditions to the attention of Avol and the public, and we hope that others in positions of authority will take further effective action, so that this will not be an isolated example of the law protecting those who have no other defense.
