A disciplinary appeal hearing ended Wednesday for Gertrude Shaw, the Edgemoor Geriatric Hospital nurse suspended by the county after a patient in one of her wards drowned in a bathtub while unattended.
Shaw, who is accused of trying to cover up the error of an assistant who worked for her, contends she has been made a scapegoat for all the county’s problems at Edgemoor.
She is appealing her 40-day suspension to the county Civil Service Commission. Commissioner Darlee Crockett, who conducted the hearing, said it would take at least two weeks to reach a decision in the case. Crockett will then submit that decision to the full commission for its approval.
