El Toro
Jet Noise Expected: Residents in Irvine, San Clemente and El Toro may hear the rumbling of low-flying jets tonight and Wednesday as pilots from the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro participate in nighttime aircraft-carrier landing practice at the base and on San Clemente Island.
According to Staff Sgt. Vicki Conkel, a public affairs official, residents will hear the jets until about 11:30 a.m. tonight and until just past midnight Wednesday.
Also, Conkel said, beginning today and extending through the month of October, the Marine Corps helicopter base at Tustin is extending its hours of aircraft operation to 11 p.m. nightly, Tuesdays through Thursdays. Aircraft will be flying later at both bases because daylight savings time has pushed night-flying exercises to later hours.
