Construction spending, aided by continued strength in the business sector, climbed 1.5% in May, the Commerce Department reported. Building activity hit a record $343.5-billion annual rate, posting the strongest gain since a 10% January increase. Analysts said the strength was coming from recent declines in interest rates.
