The City Council has voted to give itself a 10% raise, effective after the next general election April 8.
The council voted 3 to 2 Monday to raise its salaries from $470 per month to $518. Mayor James Earle Christo, John Ansdell and Ray O’Neal voted for the raise; Joseph Cvetko and G. M. (Mike) Brassard opposed it.
The council last raised its salaries more than two years ago, increasing them by 5%, the maximum annual increase allowed by state law.
Christo, Ansdell and O’Neal are up for reelection in April.
In a related matter, the council scheduled a budget hearing for 4:30 p.m. June 21 where it is expected to discuss a proposal to grant 72 city employees a 5% cost-of-living raise.
