Peter Westbrook Takes Ninth U.S. Sabre Title; Marx Brothers Win Foil and Epee Championships

Peter Westbrook of New York, a bronze medalist in the 1984 Olympic Games, won his ninth American sabre title--seventh straight--at this week’s U.S. fencing tournament in Cleveland. Brothers Michael and Robert Marx of Portland, Ore., won the foil and epee championships.
Westbrook beat Steve Mormando, 10-6, in the final.
Michael Marx won his fourth foil title by beating Greg Massialas of San Jose, 10-8. Robert Marx won his first epee crown in a sudden-death 12-11 win over Robert Trevor, a Columbia University student from Cleveland.
The women’s foil was won by Molly Sullivan of Boston, who beat her teammate, Mary Jane O’Neill, 8-6. Olympic team members Sharon Monplaisir and Jana Angelakis finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
