Canyons’ Worth
Thank you for your article on San Diego’s canyons. The opinion of construction industry lobbyist Jim Williams, that the land “is going to go to waste unless someone builds on it,” exemplifies the shortsightedness of developers. Canyons provide sustenance for countless animals, as well as hours of free entertainment for people.
A great deal of my childhood in San Diego was spent exploring canyons, and I still explore them. Williams seems to believe that unless the canyons can make money, they are worthless. If such people are allowed to have their way, all open space in San Diego will most likely be as well used as that which once existed in Los Angeles.
