Camp Pendleton
An illegal alien was killed Friday night when he was struck by a car on Interstate 5 while trying to elude authorities at Camp Pendleton, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. The man, who was not identified, was with two companions walking along the freeway when they were approached by military police about 6 p.m. The three men fled, first traversing the freeway from east to west, then back again, the spokeswoman said. During the second crossing, one man was struck by a car. He died at the scene. His companions were taken into custody by Border Patrol agents. The driver of the car was not held.
