The Montebello Unified School District has received a six-month, $27,000 grant for a project aimed at preparing high school students for university-level writing.
Under the California Academic Partnership Program, which attempts to solve problems in education by linking universities and high schools, faculty members from UCLA and the Montebello district will work together to help students develop thinking and reading skills needed in academic writing.
State funding for the program, which has received approval for 30 months, will be renewed every six months, according to Ann Nemerouf, a spokeswoman for the district.
