Glendora will join the cities that celebrate their flowers-Pasadena with its roses, Temple City with its camellias and Sierra Madre with its wisteria vine-with a weeklong festival that will have a Bougainvillea theme. The City Council has approved the Chamber of Commerce’s proposal for a Bougainvillea Days Festival, to begin April 19 with the first of Circus Vargas’s nine performances in Citrus College. A circus parade on April 20 will commemorate entertainer Sally Rand, who was a longtime Glendora resident. There will be a Bougainvillea Ball, and concluding the week’s celebration on April 28 will be a chili cook-off that is expected to draw about 5,000 participants. Co-chairmen of the event will be Nanci Day and Ric Goodhouse.
