MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the signings of catcher Bill Schroeder, pitcher Bob Gibson, infielder Brian Giles and outfielders Bobby Clark and Paul Householder.
The signings bring to 19 the number of players under contract. The Brewers are continuing negotiations with the remaining 21 players on the roster.
Schroeder, who is expected to take over full-time catching duties, hit .257 in 61 games last year. He hit 14 home runs, including nine in August.
Gibson, a right-hander, was 2-5 last year in 18 games. He also played at the Vancouver farm club where he was 3-4 in 14 games. In his last month of the season he pitched a two-hit shutout against the Baltimore Orioles and in the final game combined for a 4-0 shutout of the Toronto Blue Jays.
