Jackson Lifts USD Past Portland, 68-66
PORTLAND, Ore. — Junior guard Kiki Jackson’s follow shot with two seconds remaining in the game lifted the University of San Diego to a 68-66 win over the University of Portland in a West Coast Athletic Conference game Saturday night in Earle A. Chiles Center.
The Toreros had taken a 33-31 halftime lead on the strength of guard Chris Carr’s 12-point performance and led by as many as 12 points in the second half. However, the Pilots fought back to take a 64-63 lead with 1:33 remaining.
USD forward Anthony Ruess converted a three-point play to give the Toreros a 66-64 lead with one minute left. But Pilot Fred Harris’ two free throws tied the game, setting the stage for Jackson’s heroics.
USD improved its record to 1-2 in the WCAC (12-6 overall). Portland dropped to 0-4 (10-9 overall).
