Fallbrook
A 73-year-old Highland, Calif., woman was fatally injured Monday night near Fallbrook when she was struck by a motorcycle, the California Highway Patrol said. Edyth Sparks was taken to Fallbrook Hospital, where she died at 7:08 p.m. of multiple internal injuries, according to CHP spokesman B. J. Country. Sparks and her sister, Marie Birch, 77, of Fallbrook, were walking together at 6:20 p.m. on Ammunition Road west of South Mission Road, where there is no crosswalk or overhead street lighting. Sparks attempted to cross the street and was hit by a motorcycle ridden by Glenn Allen Westenberger 20, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. No charges will be filed against Westenberger, Country said.
