GREENSBORO, Ga. — Three people were killed and 14 others were found unconscious when carbon monoxide fumes leaked into a rural church during a revival service in near-zero weather, authorities said today.
The 17 were attending services Sunday night at the white cinderblock Greensboro Church of God, located 75 miles east of Atlanta, when they were overcome by fumes pouring from an improperly vented gas heating system. They were discovered on the floor of the church by a father of one of the victims who came to the church when his son failed to return home on time.
