Police, Youths Clash in S. Africa

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Police used rubber bullets and tear gas in clashes with black youths in a fresh wave of unrest in various parts of South Africa today. The most serious incidents were reported in townships 30 miles south of Johannesburg where large numbers of pupils continued to boycott schools.
Police reported several clashes in Bophelong township, where cars were stoned and soft drinks were stolen from a delivery truck. In nearby Boipatong, black youths stoned a bus, police said.
