A former Los Angeles police officer, who left the department in 1982 after being accused of taking part in a Hollywood burglary ring while on duty, has sued Police Chief Daryl F. Gates and other department officials for reinstatement with back pay and for unspecified general and special damages. In his Orange County Superior Court suit, former officer Peter Chryss, who was acquitted of burglary charges in Los Angeles Superior Court, denied that he was ever involved in on-duty burglaries or any other type of criminal activity while employed as a Los Angeles police officer. Chryss’s lawyers claim in the suit that their client’s statutory and constitutional rights were violated by the Police Department in its investigation of the ring and that these violations led to Chryss’s discharge.
