Placentia police said Friday they are investigating the brutal stabbing of a man who was found dead under a tree in a field.
The 40-year-old murder victim, a Placentia resident whose name was withheld pending notification of his family in Mexico, was stabbed about 39 times, Police Lt. Chuck Babcock said Friday.
“Just about every vital organ was punctured,” Babcock said.
Police investigator John Somoya said a passer-by discovered the body about 3:30 p.m. Thursday under a tree about 20 feet off the roadway, in the 1500 block of East Orangethorpe Avenue.
Although money was found on the body, Somoya said that robbery has not been ruled out as a motive. He placed the time of death at around 2 a.m. Thursday.
